My summary of Patent Index 2023 published by the European Patent Office ๐ Although I have not examined all the details and excel sheets, I wrote a quick snapshot of the European patent applications based on Patent Index 2023. What do you think about the progress? โถ Increasing demand (+2.9%) for European patents: 2023 saw a record number of patent filings over 199,000 ๐ โถ Main growth drivers: China and Korea ๐จ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ท โถ Patent applications from European entities increased by 1.8% ๐ช๐บ โถ Growth among European entities varied: Finland (+9.2%), Italy (+3.8%), Netherlands (+3.5%), Spain (+6.9%), UK (+4.2%) ๐ โถ EP applications: 69% by large companies, 23% by SMEs/individuals, 8% by universities/PROs ๐ซ โถ Significant fields: digital tech, batteries, AI ๐๐ป๐ค โถ Over 104 600 granted patents issued in 2023 ๐ โถ Unitary Patent introduced: covers 17 EU states, 17.5% of patents requested it ๐ โถ Digital communication leads in tech fields with over 17,700 applications ๐ก โถ Electrical machinery & energy saw a 12.2% increase, driven by battery innovation ๐ โถ Biotechnology applications grew by 5.9% ๐งฌ โถ Women inventors in applications rose to 23% ๐ฉ๐ฌ โถ Top 2023 applicants: Huawei, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics ๐ โถ 4 of the top ten companies are European - Philips, BASF, Siemens and Ericsson๐ The link for Patent Index 2023 is in the comments.
